November at Hilgay Care Home and Care Homes in the Area

November has been a fantastic and busy month. Here’s our monthly newsletter to update you all on what we’ve been up to and how we set ourselves apart from other care homes in the area.

Robinswood Band

We were lucky enough to be visited by the fantastic Robinswood band, who put on a brilliant performance for our residents. This was a great opportunity for everyone to get involved, and it was lovely to see everyone tapping their feet along to the music. Music is a fantastic way to stimulate the mind and we’re always looking for ways to bring music into the care home. Furthermore, it provided all of our residents and staff to get together and enjoy this performance together.

Wine Talk

On Monday the 14th of November, we welcomed Nick from Bolney Wine Estate. He gave us a talk on the vineyards, the different types of grapes and the winemaking process. This was a great opportunity for our residents to learn about something new, and we were all very impressed with Nick’s knowledge of wine! We were lucky enough to have the opportunity to also do some wine tasting, with cheese and biscuits! We’re always looking for interesting and educational talks to keep our residents engaged and learning to help us provide a unique experience, different to any of the other care homes in the area, if you have any suggestions then please let us know.

Monthly Holy Communion

On the 15th of November, we had our monthly Holy Communion. This is always a lovely service, and it was great to see so many of our residents and staff getting involved. This is an important part of care for many of our residents and we’re happy to be able to provide this service for them. We believe that spirituality is an important aspect of the service we provide. However, we welcome residents of all faiths and backgrounds and do not discriminate against their beliefs.

Knitting Club

On Wednesday the 16th, we hosted our knitting club. This is a fantastic opportunity for our residents to socialise, make new friends and enjoy a shared interest. This provides the chance for our residents to be creative and spend time doing something they love. It’s also a great opportunity to socialise and get to know each other better. We always encourage our residents to get involved in clubs and activities as we believe it’s important for them to stay active, both physically and mentally.

Little Orchards Playgroup

On the afternoon of the 16th, we welcome the Little Orchards Playgroup joined us.  This was a great opportunity for our residents to interact with children and feel young again! It’s always lovely to see the smile on our residents’ faces when the children come to visit. We believe that it’s important for our residents to feel connected to the community, and this is one of the ways we achieve this. This is something that really set us apart from other care homes in the area.

Neil Ferrigan Sing-Along

We were lucky enough to be visited by singer Neil Ferrigan, who organised a sing-along with our residents. This was a fantastic opportunity for our residents to socialise and enjoy some live music. Neil is a brilliant singer and everyone had a great time singing along to his songs. We’re always looking for ways to bring music into the care home as we believe it’s a great way to stimulate the mind. This is just one of the ways we provide a unique experience for our residents, different to any of the other care homes in the area.

Miniature Horse Zante

The 22nd was a very special day. We were visited by Gill and her miniature horse Zante. Zante was incredibly friendly and enjoyed spending time with the residents. We all had a great time and it was lovely to see everyone’s faces light up. Animals are fantastic for our mental health, particularly as we age. They can provide us with companionship, love, and a sense of purpose. This also provided something completely different for our residents to enjoy! It’s not every day that a horse visits care homes in the area.

Music Performance

In case you can’t already tell, we love music at Hilgay Care Home. On the 24th, we welcomed our favourite duo, Natalie and Dave, who gave a brilliant performance for our residents. They sang a variety of well-known songs, which everyone enjoyed singing and clapping along to. Music has so many benefits for people of all ages, particularly for those in care homes. It can help to boost mood, memory, and cognitive function.

Card Making Workshop

With Christmas just around the corner, the 28th of November was the perfect time to hold our card-making workshop. This was a really fun and festive activity, and it was lovely to see everyone getting into the Christmas spirit! We made some beautiful cards, which will be sure to put a smile on the faces of our loved ones.
